From June 14 to September 1, 2019, the Château de Villandry celebrates 500 years of the Renaissance with a historical exhibition retracing the evolution of the castle under the influence of one of the great characters of the Renaissance: Breton jeans.
The castle and the gardens of Villandry also celebrate 500 years of Renaissance (s) in the Center-Val de Loire region, with an exhibition dedicated to the royal secretaries. You will discover the transformations undergone by the castle over the centuries, and the role of Jean Breton in its evolution. Minister of Finance of Francis I at the Renaissance, he is the sponsor of the new castle of Villandry in the 1530s.
At the time of the Renaissance, the royal secretaries confirmed their social rise through the construction of bold castles, new styles. This is why many monuments were born during the Renaissance, especially in the Loire Valley.
