A stroll through Chinon is a journey back in time … From façades to small places, from dead ends to interior courts; you will discover the secrets of the cité of Richard the Lionheart, Joan of Arc and François Rabelais.

The Fortress: overlooking the crossroads of the three provinces of Anjou, Poitou and Touraine, the rocky spur upon which the royal fortress of Chinon stands is a strategic and much coveted location that has been occupied since Antiquity.

After several years of restoration work, the royal fortress has been inaugurated in July 2010 to enter the 3rd Millennium in beauty!

Set off to assault the many towers punctuating the hundred and fifty meters of restored ramparts or, walk through the royal lodgings and slip into the skins of the many august personages who have left their mark on the monument.

Also, don’t miss jewels of the Roman Art: the collegiate church of Sainte-Mexme which was the main religious building until the Revolution and the chapel Sainte-Radegonde partly dug into the rock . Also the Museum of Art & History of Chinon; one of the most beautiful of Touraine, installed in the Headquarter House (15th & 16th century), in the heart of the city center.
